People just can’t get enough of Cobras. They are about as much fun as you can have in a car; the gorgeous shape, amazing power-to-weight ratio, and open air motoring creates a thrill that can’t be beat. Here is a fantastic example that captures all these elements and many more. With its shiny black paint and a stroked and injected 351W, this one will draw a crowd wherever it goes.
This car shows only 5,400 miles and is in excellent condition throughout. It was constructed in 2006 by Fast Times Cobras. It uses their proprietary frame built from 3/16” wall tubing and fully powder coated in black. The body is from Antique & Collectible (A&C) which is one of the oldest names in Cobra replicas, having been in business since 1978. The black paint with white stripes creates a menacing look, while the simulated knock-off wheels are perfect for any Cobra. Note this one presently has quick jack points installed front and rear, but it also includes front and rear chrome tubular bumpers and bumperettes so you can have any look you desire.
This Cobra is ridiculously fast thanks in part to a 351W that has been stroked to 393 cubic inches and includes a Holley Sniper fuel injection unit. The crankshaft, camshaft, connecting rods, and pistons were all new for this build. It features Edelbrock RPM aluminum cylinder heads, an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold, and a full MSD ignition. And as you might expect, it really roars out those beautiful chrome side pipes!
The transmission is a beefy Tremec TKO 5-speed with overdrive and a hydraulic clutch, while the Ford 9” rear end houses a limited slip differential with 3.73 gears and 31-spline axles. This combination delivers blistering acceleration but will still run 70 mph around 2,000 rpm. Additional equipment includes 4-wheel disc brakes with a functional parking brake along with rack and pinion steering. The suspension uses Aldan Eagle adjustable coilovers throughout, combined with tubular control arms in front and a fully adjustable 4-link in back. The car also has stainless steel brake and fuel lines and a 15-gallon fuel tank.
The black interior is just what you’d expect from a Cobra, starting with the two low-back bucket seats. The driver seat is on slides for easy adjustability so any driver height can be accommodated. There are also 5-point harnesses for safety, though many people just use the lap portion. Steering uses a Flaming River tilt column with a self-cancelling turn signal stalk. There is also a Motolita steering wheel with matching shift knob. The custom mahogany dashboard houses a full complement of Stewart Warner gauges, while just below are the Sniper EFI touch screen and a Pioneer AM/FM/CD stereo. A horn and windshield wipers are also present and functional.
This is a great example of what makes a Cobra replica so much fun. And along with its stellar looks and performance, this one also has many features you don’t often find on these cars; fuel injection, adjustable seats, tilt column, proper turn signals, wipers, etc. It all adds up to an automotive experience unlike anything you can get from today’s models.
