A few words in defense of the red lantern!
Many photographers today use in a dark room not a red lantern, but yellow or yellow-green! With such filters it is better to control the process of manifestation in a dark room. But the yellow-green filter has one significant drawback. The length of the light wave for this filter is shorter than that of red, therefore, with prolonged exposure to photographic paper in the developing solution from yellow light, some light is produced by the photoprint, and from this contrast is lost and a light veil appears on the photographic print. And when you have to print on old paper, then this effect is intensified.
This is a significant drawback of yellow light - it spoils photo paper with a prolonged manifestation in an undiluted developer.
Red light has a long light wave, and therefore it acts more gently on photo paper in a dark room.
